Bird Watching

Bird watching

All over the world, but especially in the United States, bird watching is  becoming a very popular attraction. The latest statistics show that bird watching highly surpasses the number of people watching baseball and football games in North America!

It is very important to remember to find the best spot, although this seems obvious, many bird watchers waste their time and energy at poor locations. Although some people have the luck of watching birds in their backyards, others need to search for spots. It is highly recommended to visit the National Wildlife Refuge to watch birds, as there are many varieties of birds found there.

Before embarking on your bird watching campaign, it is better to do some research as to the varieties of birds that can be found in that location. Although there are numerous species of birds around, only a few species are found in specific locations. This would make it rather easy to identify bird species from one another. Always have a good pair of binoculars, preferably a pair with a built-in digital camera.

Most good quality binoculars also have the feature that keeps your view from shaking, anti-fogging, low-light viewing and wide-view characteristics. Such a binocular will turn a mediocre experience into a great one! Practice putting your binoculars to target before actually bird watching; birds are usually visible for only a few seconds, and this practice leads to one becoming confident.

TODAY'S NEWS:

This column was supposed to be about birds. About how the nice folks at Francis Beidler National Forest in Harleyville are catching them, studying them, marking them and then releasing them back into the wild in the hopes of learning how to better protect them in the future.

Birds are out of the nest and on the move. It's the time of year when young birds, many in short-lived plumages, beg parents for food, while at the same time the first migrants arrive, often inconspicuously, among the local nesters.

CORSICANA – The SPCA of Texas has been awarded custody of the 154 fighting birds rescued under the authority of the Navarro County Sheriff’s Department.

It is also recommended that you take someone with, which will enable you to be alerted to the best sighting of the day. Remember that the more prepared you are, the better the results and enjoyment. Most importantly you should keep a bird watching journal so that you can look back on your favorite pass time.
