Birdhouses

Birdhouses

Overall birdhouses are inexpensive and fun to build, especially when you have a passion for the feathered creatures. Keep in mind that a well-built birdhouse should be durable, cool, rainproof and readily accessible for cleaning. Ask for professional advice when it comes to the material for the birdhouses, the best material is metal, due to the fact that metals, other than aluminum do not  become as extremely hot when exposed to the sun.

"The Birding For Everyone Package" is the easiest, fastest and most inexpensive way to get started. It includes:
"The Birding Manual";

It is of the utmost importance that the roof be constructed with sufficient pitch to shed water and should have at least three inches of overhang to protect the entrance from driving rain. To accommodate the water that may trickle into the house, a few small holes should be drilled in the floor to allow drainage and to facilitate ventilation in hot weather (these holes should be planned near the top of the box). It is also recommended for the house to be constructed with screws for easy disassembly when it comes to cleaning. To assist the young birds in climbing to the opening of the birdhouse, it is better to have the interior walls roughened or grooved.

Make sure that you place the birdhouses in a location that is inaccessible to their foe. One can place iron poles as mounts for the birdhouse to protect the birds from cats and squirrels having easy access. As birds insist on territorial rights, it is better not to place birdhouses too close together as conflicts may arise in empty birdhouses.
